The Hermosa Project is located in the Patagonia Mountains, about 80 kilometers southeast of Tucson, Arizona. It comprises the zinc-lead-silver Taylor sulphide deposit, the zinc-manganese-silver Clark oxide deposit, and the copper-lead-zinc-silver Peake exploration target, as well as the Flux prospect. The project aims to leverage underground mining and processing methods used at South32’s Cannington operation in Australia. The Hermosa Project is significant because it is the only advanced mine development project in the United States that could produce two federally designated critical minerals—manganese and zinc. These minerals are essential for powering the nation’s clean energy future.
