BHP – NOJV Resolution

The Resolution Copper Project is a world-class copper development located near Superior, Arizona, and is one of the largest undeveloped copper resources in North America. Owned by a joint venture between Rio Tinto and BHP, the project targets a deep, high-grade copper deposit that has the potential to become one of the largest underground copper mines in the United States. Once operational, the mine could supply up to 25% of U.S. copper demand for decades, supporting the growing need for critical minerals used in renewable energy, electric vehicles, power infrastructure, and advanced manufacturing.

The proposed development utilizes advanced underground block-caving mining methods to access the orebody located thousands of feet below the surface. With an expected operating life of up to 40 years and the potential to produce approximately 40 billion pounds of copper, Resolution represents a strategically important project for North America’s long-term copper supply. The project is expected to generate significant economic benefits through investment, job creation, and infrastructure development while playing a key role in supporting the energy transition and strengthening domestic mineral supply chains.
