The Vicuña Copper-Gold Project is an emerging world-class mining district located along the Argentina–Chile border, encompassing the highly prospective Filo del Sol and Josemaría deposits. Developed through a 50/50 joint venture between BHP and Lundin Mining, the project combines two of the most significant undeveloped copper-gold assets in South America and is widely recognized as one of the most important new copper districts globally. The proximity of the deposits allows for an integrated development approach, creating opportunities for shared infrastructure, operational efficiencies, and long-term resource growth.
With substantial copper, gold, and silver resources and a projected mine life measured in decades, Vicuña is positioned to become a major supplier of critical minerals needed for global electrification, renewable energy, and infrastructure development. Ongoing engineering, exploration, and development activities are advancing plans for a large-scale mining complex that could rank among the world’s leading copper producers. As investment continues across the district, the Vicuña Project is expected to generate significant economic benefits while strengthening the long-term supply of metals essential to the global energy transition.
